Coffee is an essential part of our daily lives! But did you know that in Sweden, we waste 84,400 tons of coffee every year? That’s millions of cups never consumed.

Beyond the financial loss, this also means that huge amounts of resources from cultivation and transportation to brewing and serving go to waste

How can we reduce coffee waste?

The good news is that there are many simple ways to cut down on waste both at home and in professional kitchens. Here are some of the most effective:

✅ Brew the right amount: adjust the quantity to match demand and avoid unnecessary waste ✅ Use the right dosage: over-dosing can result in bitter coffee and unnecessary use of beans. ✅ Keep coffee warm the smart way: instead of leaving a pot on a hot plate, use a thermos to preserve flavor longer. ✅ Repurpose coffee grounds: used coffee grounds are a great resource! They can be used in gardening, as a natural scrub, or to absorb odors.

At Generation Waste, we are committed to reducing food waste at every stage, and coffee is an important part of this challenge. That’s why we’ve put together a Coffee Guide, filled with practical tips and insights to help reduce coffee waste
